Pend Oreille County had 13,401 residents at the 2020 census across about 1,400 square miles, which makes it one of the least crowded parts of the state. Newport, the county seat, had 2,114 residents. The county was carved out of Stevens County in 1911, the last of Washington's 39 counties to be formed.
